December 2005, Toko94 opened its doors in Rotterdam. Five years later, a second branch was opened in Amsterdam, in the MC THEATRE (Zuiveringshal Oost in the Westergasfabriek Culture Park). This branch was baptized TOKO MC. Just like the establishment in Rotterdam, this restaurant serves the modern Caribbean cuisine.

Under the supervision of Chef Kai Erquicia Cortegoso we have composed a menu that makes use of the colourful ingredients and the traditional cooking techniques of the Caribbean. We aim to create a new culinary genre. We take inspiration from the cooking traditions of, among others, Jamaica, Surinam, Trinidad, Curacao, Brazil and Cuba. The recipes have been built up from a combination of traditional creole home-style cooking and modern Western cooking techniques. It is soul food with a culinary edge.

In the bar, too, we make use of the beauty of the tropics, which we incorporate in our modern tropical cocktails. Apart from caressing the taste buds and pleasing the eye we also provide food for the ears. To us, music is just as important as food and drink, even after the kitchen has closed.

In collaboration with organizations like Mixin, Jazzsole, Strange Fruit and Moovmnt we present a diverse programme of concerts, showcases, parties, film evenings and lectures. In this context we have previously enjoyed small and exclusive performances at Toko 94 by Brian Jackson, NtjamRosie, Esperanzah, Xantone Blacq, Vikter Duplaix, Marc de Clive-Lowe and many others. It is such exclusive performances that you may now expect to experience at TOKO MC, as well.
